Dr Rosi Smith

Rosi is Senior Lecturer in Education Studies at De Montfort University, where she leads modules on inclusion, special educational needs, disability and neurodiversity. Having researched education and participation in Cuba since 2009, she is now principal investigator for the AHRC networking project ‘Cultures of participation for equitable development in Cuba and the UK’.

Professor Par Kumaraswami

Professor of Latin American Studies and Director of the Center for Research on Cuba/Cuba Research Forum, University of Nottingham. Her doctorate was about the testimonial writings of women from revolutionary Cuba and she works on the forms, functions and uses of literature in post-59 Cuba. She is finishing a research project on literary cultures in the province of Granma that includes activities of local impact.

Dr Sonali Shah

Associate Professor in Disability and Life Course Research, in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences at the University of Nottingham. She leads the Althea project, funded by the National Institute for Heath and Care Research’s Research for Patient Benefit fund. The purpose of this mixed method interdisciplinary study is to improve understanding of the effects of ageing for men and women with cerebral palsy (CP), and their changing healthcare needs and access to services across the life course.

Dr Stephen Connolly

Senior Lecturer in Autism and Education, and is an Autistic researcher focusing on decolonising autism, decolonising research methodology, ethical autism research practices, inclusion of autistic pupils in education, and autistic student experiences of special schools. His background is in working in and with special schools, alternative provisions and parents. He currently teaches around autism theory, autism policy and practice, challenging ideas of challenging behaviour and social justice.
