Documentary film
One of the things that became clear to the UK team was the importance of Cuba’s Disabled People’s organisations as a model of disabled-led, community-based participatory practice. Their work is, however, little-known in the UK, so we commissioned a documentary film by Bayamo-based filmmaker Daniel Casanova, created in collaboration with representatives of the organisations. The film sets out the organisations’ structures and how they work in an intersectoral way to advance the interests and possibilities of their members.
Public screenings took place in Bayamo, Manzanillo and Bartolomé Masó, along with performances by artists involved in our exchange programme.
It was then shared in the UK in our launch event on 1st October 2024.
