Easy Read Co-creation.
Easy Read Co-creation.
As in many countries, learning-disabled adults in Cuba often find themselves out of work or in inaccessible work. In Granma Province, however, there are examples of employers attempting to develop inclusive practices.
Based on findings from interviews conducted by Rosi Smith (De Montfort University) with learning-disabled workers, their families and their employers, informative materials are being developed to support employers and potential employees. The project was begun after a period of methodological exchange, where UK academics shared different examples of co-production, and Cuban practitioners, disabled people’s organisations and academics considered how they might be adapted to be meaningful in their context.
Facilitated by Leidy Montano Pérez (ACPDI), Leticia Martínez Rosabal (Professor at CUM Masó) and Yasmani Martínez (Part-time Professor at CUM Masó), a group of learning-disabled workers designed the text and images for Easy Read to support other learning-disabled people to find jobs and thrive in them.
